Sebbie's Rogue Information and Notes
The following is Kevin Trayner's notes about the Rogue beers Sebbie Buhler brought to the second March 2001 PALEALES meeting. Also included is a little note by Sebbie about where to buy Rogue in the our area.
Chocolate Stout - on tap.
Based on Rogue's classic oatmeal stout,
Shakespeare Stout. Infused with the essence of Dutch bittersweet chocolate.
Chocolate Stout is very limited in bottles and on draft (PA). Forget the Chocolate
Bunny for Easter, buy a beer with chocolate in it for your honey! To see the
original Japanese bottle, visit www.ezo-beer.com
HazelNut Brown Nectar - Brown
Ale with Hazelnut
extract
a play on the classic english brown ale style using Oregon filberts to enhace the flavor. Recipe developed by award winning homebrewer Chris Studdach. Suggested blending with Chocolate Stout or Mocha Porter.
Mocha Porter -
once known as NewPorter, this name reflects the beer. A year-round classic from Rogue.
Dead Guy Ale -
the classic German MaiBock style brewed with an ale yeast. Another year-round offering.
Mogul -
several bottles of the current 2000-2001 batch were poured for the crowd. Very limited availability.
Finally, several single bottles from Seb's cellar were shared with those who were brave enough to stay.
Mogul 1999-2000 vintage
(a rather lovely batch, even with a year of age!)
Old Crustacean 1993
Old Crustacean 1994
Russian Imperial Stout 1996
McRogue Scotch Ale 1998
From Sebbie:
Many of you asked about where to
buy Rogue in NJ. Any liquor store that has a good selection of beer (Brooklyn,
Sam Smith, etc.) can order Rogue. Our wholesale distributor in NJ, Allied
(Jaydor/Hoffman division) sells: 12oz: Dead Guy, Mocha Porter, Youngers Special
Bitter, Honey Cream Ale, and Shakespeare Stout. 22oz: Dead Guy, Yellow Snow,
Chocolate Stout (while it lasts!)
A few cases of Santa's Private Reserve are left (our holiday beer--double
hopped Saint Rogue Red--and tasting extra good with a few months to let the
hops settledown and mellow!)
Draft: Dead Guy, Yellow Snow, Dry-hopped Saint Rogue Red,
Shakespeare Stout.
Rogue On Tap in Central NJ:
Rogue Shakespeare Stout will be on tap soon at The Alchemist and Barrister
on Witherspoon Street in Princeton. Dead Guy is on tap at Jakes Restaurant
on Route 31/202 South in Flemington and at Joe's Mill Hill in Trenton. Yellow
Snow is on tap at Rats Restaurant at the Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton.
The Inn of the
Hawke in Lambertville will probably have a Rogue on tap soon.
In PA the selection of Rogue in bottles and on tap is much better than NJ. Select retailers worth knowing about are B&B Beverage in Doylestown, Shangy Beverage in Emmaus (just south of Allentown). On Sat April 12 at Shangy's Beverage from 11am until 1pm I will be hosting a Rogue promotion featuring the Chocolate Stout.
